I guess you’re viewing on the custom template page and get this error, right?
Please do not view/see the custom template page. This is only a custom template, after creating it you can go to Product / Edit single product then you will see an option to apply the custom template to the single product page.

We’re working on the custom product category page feature, in the current version. This option: Product Custom Page to apply the custom template for all of the product in the category.
