I know child theme is the way to go, unfortunately the previous developers made changes directly in the theme (v1.2.4) so I would have to diff between a modified v1.2.4 and v.1.2.6 which is quite annoying since I would have to figure out which changes they made in the theme and which changes you made in the theme.
Fortunately the previous developers were able to find their old original copy of v1.2.4 and i was able to find the changes done there and move them to a child theme and then update the parent theme so my problem is solved 🙂
I would suggest that you keep a version of each release (at least a couple versions back) in case anyone else has an issue like mine 🙂
